Wedding Wednesday: What to Wear to a Wedding {as a Guest!}

Attending a wedding this year and not sure what to wear?  I’ve pulled my top tips & tricks for figuring it out, along with my favorite picks of the moment (all up to 25% off with code ‘BIGEVENT16‘!

The most important thing to remember when choosing an outfit for any wedding is that you want to look stylish while still feeling confidant and comfortable (a major key!) With that being said, you never want to upstage the bride, so here are a few things to remember:

  1. Never, ever, ever wear white to a wedding. This includes any pre-wedding festivities like a rehearsal dinner, engagement party or bridal shower! Let the bride have her moment. I’m equally as wary of dresses that have other color in them, but are the majority white. If you have to question it – move on! It’s not worth it. The only exception to this rule is if the invite specifically requests guests to wear white!
  2. Try to remember to be conscientious of location – is the ceremony on the beach? In a church? Make sure to pick an outfit that fits the exact scenario (feel free to refer to the invite for a little direction in what the bride and groom expect!) For example, the sheer paneling on #5, and the peek of tummy on #8 make them slightly inappropriate for a ceremony that’s in a church, but either could be a perfect option for a rehearsal dinner!
  3. Wearing black to a wedding used to be taboo, but these days its completely appropriate for a fancier evening! My favorites from above are #1, #6, and #10.
  4. Last but not least, it’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed. If an invite says ‘black tie optional’ err on the side of caution and wear a long dress. Like your mama always said, it’s better to be safe than sorry!

Shirt: Equipment short sleeve silk blouse // Jeans: Blank NYC distressed skinny jeans // shoes: Christian Louboutin Pigalle Follies // Bag: Cambride Satchel push lock bag // Sunglasses: old, similar here // Lipstick: Chanel no. 104

I am in love with this blouse – it was a bit of an investment, especially considering its just a basic, but that’s always why it’s worth it. It’s silk, lightweight and perfect for spring + summer. I already have tons of outfits planned in my head centered around it! These jeans were a purchase from last year, and I’ve worn them numerous times. Such a great deal for only $88 – be warned though! The coloring on these differs greatly. The coloring on mine look nothing like my friends who also own them. Each pair is truly unique!

One Tee: 3 Ways!

Y’all know I love my basics – so when Kate Spade New York asked if I wanted to style their everyday tee 3 ways, I jumped at the challenge! This tee is perfect. Its a bit heavier than just your average tee and the different neckline makes it more unique than any other tee I own. It’s a part of Kate Spade New York’s ‘Broome Street’ collection, which is their new line of ‘casual, but timeless separates.’ Thats basically my style to a T (no pun intended) so let’s just get right down to it!

I paired it first with these simple pants {also from Kate Spade New York!} and my fav pointy toe suede pumps.  I shot this look right before Valentines day, so I stopped by central market for a fresh batch of roses and a sweet lemonade {those counts as accessories, right?} I love how simple, yet crisp this outfit feels. Depending on the accessories, I could wear these two basics to church, work, to run errands, or just to hang around the house. I love that the red lip jazzes this particular version up a bit

quick sip of lemonade….that stuff was really good

Y’all also probably know that I like to keep things simple, but what you probably don’t know is that I’m always cold. Thats why I loved layering this tee with this striped sweater. I love how the shoulder has buttons that you can unbutton to see the shirt peeking out, and how some of the stripes are overlaid with grosgrain ribbon {i’m such a sucker for grosgrain on anything} The chunky knit is also super warm & cozy!

  It warmed up a bit in Dallas, so I decided to switch up this last look with a little splash of color. How good are these shorts?! I’m usually not a sequin kinda gal, but these were TOO good to pass up. I actually like that the sequins dress the look up a bit, and the tshirt makes it a little more casual. Also….this beach cruiser….I borrowed it from my sweet friend Sarah and now…WANT.
