HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE | MY TRIED & TRUE FAVORITES

Free People Ottoman Sweater – Can’t start this series without first mentioning this Free People tunic. If you’ve been following me for a while now, you know that this sweater is pretty much all I wear come fall + winter. It’s perfectly oversized while still being chic, it’s comfortable while still maintaining its shape, and lastly it comes in tons of colors that can suit anyone’s needs. It may honestly be the most versatile item of clothing I own. I can wear it with workout leggings, or with jeans, as a dress or over leather. I truly believe it is one of those items that is universally flattering on pretty much anyone. I show here how you can style it tucked in or out. {also available here + here}

Sweater Shaver – This sweater {fabric} shaver is incredible. It will literally shave off the most stubborn of pills on any fabric. I’ve used it on sweaters, my sofa, my carpet {both wool, and sisal}, my bedding and even my curtains {uh huh}. Although powerful, the blade is gentle and can be used on the finest of fabrics {I went to town on one of my favorite cashmere sweaters, and it worked beautifully}. The power of this machine is what makes it far better than any other shaver on the market, and worth every penny of the slightly higher retail price. To use, lay your item flat and pull it so there are no lines or wrinkles. That way the blade has a nice taut surface to glide over and shave. I’ve brought one of these to a gift exchange party before and it was a hit. Rightfully so – who doesn’t deal with crazy pilling this time of year!? Its the gift you never knew how badly you needed! 

Travel Steamer – I’ve used a steamer for years. I no longer tolerate a wrinkly wardrobe when I travel because this steamer makes it so dang easy to look crisp {in under 2 minutes flat!} This one heats up in seconds, is super easy to assemble and breaks down into just two parts. No more wasting gallons of hot water to steam your clothing in your hotel’s bathroom – buy one for you and one for a friend {you’ll both be thanking me later}. 

Dr. Dennis Gross Tan Towels – One towel can tan your entire face and body and leave you looking like you just spent a week at the beach. Being very pale, I find these one of my best finds for 2019. They’re easy to apply and super natural looking. Easily my go-to when I need to look bronze at the last minute.

Coravin Wine System – I bought this tool for my husband when we first started dating and it has been one of the best kitchen investments we’ve ever made. Almost 7 years later, we still use it at least 3-4x per week! What it does is allow you to pour a single glass of wine from a bottle without opening it. That way I can pour a glass without having to worry about the bottle going bad before I can finish it. A splurge-worthy gift, but worth it – especially for the wine lover in your life! 

No Show Socks – We’ve all been there – walking around and having to constantly stick your finger into the heel of your shoe to pull up the sock that’s constantly falling off your heel. Or what about the opposite? Aching feet that have been squished into too small elastic socks that never slip off your heel but also leave you wishing you hadn’t bothered at all. Enter in these no show sock sets from Loft. They are a sock game changer and will make your day-to-day life so much more comfortable. These babies aren’t elastic, so they lay flat and fit the foot as they should {without squishing it down} They also have a gel pad on the back of the heel that secures it quite nicely to ensure comfort and stability. They always go on sale and 1 or 2 packs would make a great stocking stuffer for anyone on your list!

Weezie Make Up Towels – I can honestly say that I use these dark navy make up towels from Weezie every single day. I love them because you can wipe your make up off without leaving stains behind on your nice white hand towels. They’re also extremely plush and soft which helps after you’ve cleansed your face. A set of two makes the cutest gift! {This past year I gave these as gifts to the girls who hosted a baby shower for me and everyone was so excited about them!}

The Daily Edited Phone Case – I have carried this same phone case for {probably?} close to 2.5-3 years and I’ve never gotten sick of it. It’s classic, chic and personalized in the classiest way. I love the shadow box font but there are also several other options that are equally as cute {not to mention tons of color combinations!} It would make such a thoughtful personalized {and useful!} gift! 

Ostrich Travel Pillow – We all know that sleeping on a plane can be difficult, but with it’s super soft jersey material, and bead-like interior, the Ostrich Pillow makes it so much easier. This O shaped travel pillow lays on top of your eyes and ears, blocking out sound and light, and acts as a rest for the head. I first discovered it’s magic a few years ago when my {now} husband had a medical emergency when traveling. My {now} sister-in-law, Katelyn, had an Ostrich pillow with her and let me borrow it when it became clear I would have to spend the night at the hospital in a chair – It blocked out the beeping machines, the lights from other patients and made my awkward angles comfortable enough for me to get a few hours rest. If someone you love loves to travel, get them this pillow! Ever since that moment, I have sworn it’s my #1 must-have.

Amazon Jacket – This jacket went viral last winter, and with good reason! It’s often on sale for under $100 and keeps you incredibly warm. It’s also slightly oversized and super chic to boot. Comes in several colors and they also a recently launched a kids version {omg}. Some might say its over because of how popular it got last year but I disagree! I have it in black and still love it to this day. 

Nest Holiday Candle – When it comes to preparing for Christmas, there is no better way than lighting one of Nest’s Holiday candles. With the combination of pine, spices and citrus all perfectly blended together, the fragrance is a tradition that my husband and I can’t live without. We seriously look forward to this time of the year where we can light our candles as soon as we get home and enjoy the subtle scent of Christmas. Nest also makes other holiday scents like ‘Sugar Cookie‘ and “Birchwood Pine‘ {my mom’s personal favorite}, but to me, none hold a candle {no pun intended} to the magical scent of the Holiday fragrance. The candle comes in an array of sizing options – one for each of the needs in your life. A votive size ($16) for your powder bath, or coworker gifts. The standard size ($42) for your office, or as a hostess gift, and lastly, the 3-wick ($64), which is perfect for a large space, like the entryway of your home or living room. Oh! And of course there is the reed diffuser ($48). My mom actually prefers this to the actual candles because she has such a strong sense of smell and the reeds don’t give off as much of a scent {in her opinion!} For me, the reeds don’t do enough – but that’s what I meant when I said there is truly a size and a scent for everyone! As I mentioned above, with it’s fuzzy, velvet-like red and gold box, the Nest Holiday candles make the perfect gift. My favorite way to gift them is to place them in a clear gift bag, and tie them with a ribbon. That way you can let the beautiful and festive box do all the work for you!

Truffle Clarity Case{s} – These little clear bags are incredible. Sturdy, stylish and extremely functional, the bags are useful in so many ways. I not only love to use them, I love to gift them as well. Click here to find out the multiple ways in which I use them. 

Mi Golondrina Dress – Last, but certainly not least, is my beloved Mi Golondrina. I’ve been a fan since the brand launched back in 2012 and have since collected as many hand made and embroidered pieces as I can. The ‘Flores‘ style is their most classic piece which comes in hundreds of different color combinations {I gifted these to my bridesmaids on my wedding day in a beautiful soft blue!} but I also own and love this incredible top, a few pairs of earrings and one of the incredibly beautiful skirts. I like the to think that by the time the Mi Golondrina pieces make it into your home, they have a history as rich and beautiful as the women who make them.

How To Prepare for Black Friday & Cyber Monday Sales

Black Friday and Cyber Monday is upon us y’all & that means more sales than you know what to do with. It can be a bit overwhelming {even for me} & with so much going on, I knew I wanted to offer some tips to make shopping the sales as easy as possible. These are my tried & true tips that I use every year, so I know they’ll work for you too.

  1. Make a plan! You need to get organized. Otherwise, you’ll waste time, forget people, and miss out on savings! The first thing I do is write out everyone I’m buying gifts for. I also link out {or write out} what I plan to get them & from where. Next, I make a list of the items I want to buy for myself/my family & babe/my pups. For example, I always buy my Christmas cards on Black Friday when they are heavily discounted, so I prepare my address book, and make a note, so I’m always ready to go. Getting prepared is crucial in saving you time, and keeping things sane. No one wants to stress over Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping! This should be fun.  A little prep will make a world of difference 🙂

  2. Make a separate list of all your favorite online retailers. Although most retailers will have some sort of promotion going on, not all will have major sales. I like to make a list of every retailer I love and check back on them all weekend to see if the sale offerings change. I also like to separate my retailers by category: HOME, FASHION, KIDS, BEAUTY etc so I can stay focused.

Also, you probably recognize the sweater I’m wearing above if you’ve been following me on Instagram because I literally don’t take it off {I also own the black}. It’s perfectly oversized, so comfortable and can be worn with anything. I’ve paired it with a silk skirt, workout leggings and jeans, and if you’re short enough, you could also get away with wearing this as a dress on it’s own! It’s seriously one of the best sweaters I’ve bought in a long time, so don’t sleep on this one! You will regret it, I promise!

The Under Eye Concealer Every New Mom Needs

When I first noticed the dark circles under my eyes, I was convinced it was left over mascara from the night before. As I grabbed my cotton pad and wiped, the darkness remained. I seriously thought to myself – ‘What is going on? Why isn’t this make up coming off?’

I had never dealt with dark under eye circles before having a baby, and even though I was waking up throughout the night to nurse, I still felt relatively rested {I probably sound crazy when I say that, but I’ve always been a solid sleeper and just napped during the day when the baby napped {which felt like a lot TBH!} Anyways! The thought that these circles were caused from Henning didn’t even cross my mind, which honestly feels silly now, but maybe I was still in that delirious newborn stage to really think things through. Who knows.

All I know now is that these little purple circles are for sure from my sweet little baby, and they probably aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Although he’s worth every last bit of it, I’m not against trying to find a solution either. Enter in: you guys. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’m not much of a make up girl. I don’t know that much about it, and I also don’t wear that much of it. So I polled you guys – I asked what your favorite concealers were – which ones you couldn’t live without, and which were the best of the best. And guess what? Over 85% of you recommended this one from Cle De Peau.

At $70 a pop, I wasn’t too thrilled about this recommendation. But a quick google search will tell you, that you guys are onto something. I know I’m not the only woman out there desperate for a fix that could make me look a little more human after another long night of no sleep, but I also know that spending $70 on a 5 gram stick of concealer is crazy. Or so I thought.

Let’s first start with a before photo. I actually had a before photo taken by my photographer but it turned out too well {bless her – her job is to make me look good after all} but I wanted to show y’all the real, unedited, version of my under eye circles. They are below :-/

Ok, phew, now that that is over with, let’s get on to the solution part. I ordered the concealer and this little brush as soon as I could. I was excited to see what all the hype was about. I had tried a few other popular concealers before polling you guys, and didn’t find any success with those, so I was anxious to find a solution that actually worked for me.

Can I just go ahead and say I really like this stuff? Y’all weren’t kidding. It’s good. At first I wasn’t sure because it was a bit creamy. I’m used to a more liquid concealer. Something that glides on really easily. This isn’t that. And you know what? Maybe that’s why it actually worked for once? It made my skin look like my skin, but better.  It didn’t cake up, or look too heavy. It honestly gave me that Instagram worthy finish that looks really good. Almost too good….Almost.

Even though the stick was creamier than I was used to, it was still super easy to apply. I am still figuring out my favorite method, but so far I swipe the stick under the eye and then blend it in first, with my brush and then with a damp beauty blender. It gives a super soft, almost airbrush finish without settling into my fine lines.

As for the color, I chose the shade as close to my natural skin tone as possible. I’m not trying to ‘lift’ or ‘brighten’ here, I just want to conceal. There are six Cle De Peau shades available and I chose Beige.

Ok, so there you have it! I’m two weeks into using this little miracle product and I can {begrudgingly?} say that it is worth every penny. I no longer look like I’ve stayed out all night partying {or let’s be real – breastfeeding} all night and if I have to pay a premium for that, then it’s worth it to me. The only thing I might add is a color corrector which will help cover the under eye circles even more. You apply this before the concealer to help even or ‘cancel’ out the darkness. I’ve never done it before {like I said, I’m a novice} but I’ve heard it’s an important step before applying under eye concealer if your darkness is really bad {*raises hand*}.

An outfit like this is something I will wear day in and day out. Comfortable, stylish without trying too hard and warm. The cashmere at Everlane is so cozy y’all.
