How To: Create & Share Google My Maps with Pins!

Hi there! My name is Jourdan and I’m so excited to ‘e-meet’ you! Is there anything Google CAN’T do?! Bridget and I recently learned about how Google Maps can ROCK. YOUR. WORLD. when traveling. Shoutout to my high school friend, Taylor, for bringing this to our attention! How To: Create & Share Google My Maps with Pins!

If you’re heading on a trip somewhere new and have a bunch of recommendations to track–like Bridge! Or have a friend who is heading to one of your fave cities and want to send them recommendations… Let’s put a pin on it.

Using Google My Maps (you do have to have a Google account), you can create different layers on a map with different locations saved to those layers. A couple of ideas for layers are neighborhoods (like what we did for Boston) or categories (i.e. restaurants, boutiques, sightseeing). The first step is to title your map (like “Bridget in Boston”). Then go ahead and title your first layer.

There are two ways to add pins to your layers. First, you can search the street address. Then you can select the suggestion Google recommends.

An interesting discovery about searching by street address is that when you hit “enter” or search, the pin will drop on that address (duh). And you can just “add to map” and edit to add your own name. BUT since that’s the address of the restaurant (or whatever) you want to save, you can also click on the location’s Google pin once it’s on the map and “add to map” that way.

Another way to search and “add to map” is to search for the location by the name itself! Once you select the location and it pins on the map, you can “add to map.”

Here’s a little pic of what your layers and pins should look like while editing:

And then here’s what they’ll look like when you’re all done:

Once you have all of your pins saved to all of your layers, you’re ready to share! Because My Maps is Google and therefore awesome, the maps/layers/pins save as you go. You’ve worked hard, you’ve done the leg work–time to show it off! Under your title, click “Share” (it has the person with the plus sign by their head). You can invite people via email, but we thought it was easier just to share with the link!

Now, about viewing the maps! If you own the map, you can definitely view it in the Maps app! Open the app, and in the menu go to “Your places.” Tap “Maps” and you should see the map you just saved and created.

If you’re sending the map to someone, this is how you can tell them to view it! Option 1: If they use the link you sent them, the map will automatically open in their browser (phone or computer, same diff). Option 2: (Eventually) getting it to open in their Maps app. This is tricky. First you’ll email them the link. Then they’ll open it in their mobile browser, which should automatically redirect to the Drive app. They may have to log in to their Google account in the browser before it auto directs to Drive. Once the map opens Drive, it should then redirect to Maps app. Sometimes it will just show the map view in actual Drive–but you can still use it their. Or you can head to Maps and it should be there after it opens once in Drive! You just need to make sure that their same Google account is signed in to the mobile browser, Drive app, and Maps app. Once everything is synced up, they should be able to open Maps app, go to “Your places” and then the map should be under “Maps.” Full disclosure… It took me a couple of times to get this part working smoothly! Bridget ended up using the mobile browser version in Bah-ston, though, and it worked perfectly!

Oh! One more thing! You can “uncheck” layers you don’t want to see at that time. So like if you’re in one certain area and only want to see what you have saved for that ‘hood, you can “uncheck” all the other areas so you don’t get overloaded! Same for if you only want to see “sightseeing” because your boyfriend doesn’t want to go to any more boutiques. You get the picture!

Whew. Okay, y’all. I think that’s everything! We hope this is a useful tip for you! I know I’m super pumped to use My Maps again when my sister comes to visit me in Dallas!

Xoxo,

J

PS – Want to check out the Boston My Maps Bridget used on her trip? It’s full of all the AMAZING recommendations from YOU GUYS! Click this link to be able to open the map (in Drive) and then save to your My Maps using the steps above!

The Only Candle You Need This Holiday Season

When it comes to preparing for Christmas, there is no better way than lighting one of Nest’s Holiday candles. With the combination of pine, spices and citrus all perfectly blended together, the fragrance is a tradition that my husband and I can’t live without. We seriously look forward to this time of the year where we can light our candles as soon as we get home and enjoy the subtle scent of Christmas. Nest also makes other holiday scents like ‘Sugar Cookie‘ and “Birchwood Pine‘ {my mom’s personal favorite}, but to me, none hold a candle {no pun intended} to the magical scent of the Holiday fragrance.

The candle comes in an array of sizing options – one for each of the needs in your life. A votive size ($16) for your powder bath, or coworker gifts. The standard size ($42) for your office, or as a hostess gift, and lastly, the 3-wick ($64), which is perfect for a large space, like the entryway of your home or living room. Oh! And of course there is the reed diffuser ($48). My mom actually prefers this to the actual candles because she has such a strong sense of smell and the reeds don’t give off as much of a scent {in her opinion!} For me, the reeds don’t do enough – but that’s what I meant when I said there is truly a size and a scent for everyone!

As I mentioned above, with it’s fuzzy, velvet-like red and gold box, the Nest Holiday candles make the perfect gift. My favorite way to gift them is to place them in a clear gift bag, and tie them with a ribbon. That way you can let the beautiful and festive box do all the work for you!

Nest Holiday Candles can be found at all of the below retailers
{I have included several as they oftentimes go on sale/sell out throughout the season!}

NORDSTROM

AMAZON

Is there anything better than getting your Christmas shopping out of the way early? I’d say not!

Anyways, since this is one of my favorite sales of the year, I wanted to share with y’all three new products I’ve recently purchased and am loving.

Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb

This moisturizing cream was recommended to me by a friend who lives in Colorado. She knew I was struggling with super dry skin patches on my face and said this Belif cream was a lifesaver for her {and her skin!} while living in a much dryer climate. It is an ultra-lightweight, oil-free gel-cream that instantly cools and feels refreshing on the skin. I love the consistency of this product especially because it doesn’t feel too heavy – it absorbs right into the skin and leaves it feeling clean {not tacky}. This product is also very gentle, so it is great if you have sensitive skin. With over 2,000 5 star reviews on Sephora, I know I’m not the only one seeing major improvements in the hydration of my skin. I also love that this product is free of mineral oils, petrolatum, synthetic preservatives, dyes, fragrances, and animal origin ingredients.

Murad Rapid Resurfacing Peel

I can’t remember where I first heard about these resurfacing peel wipes, but I bought them on a whim and man oh man  -they are amazing.  The first time I used one, I followed the instructions and used it right before bed. I went to sleep, and by the time I had woken up the next morning, I forgotten all about it. The next day I was filming a few stories for my Instagram and noticed my skin looked especially bright. It was radiant and glowing – I honestly felt like I looked like I had just gotten a facial from my beloved Joanna Czech. Yes. They’re that good. Ever since, I’ve been using this product 1x a week, but need to amp that up to 2x with what it is doing to my skin!! This product is my new holy grail. Do not walk – run!

Drybar Southern Belle Volume-Boosting Root Lifter

Ever since I started going to DryBar, I noticed that my hair was holding a curl way better – and it was all thanks to this product, the Southern Belle Mousse. When I can’t make it to the salon, I put a big dollop into my hand and apply from the base of my head to the roots when my hair is wet. I blow and style as normal, and my curls hold so much better. You know how your hair feels really slippery after taking a shower? Like it’s too clean? Well, this product gives the hair a little grit so that the styling you do actually stays. I never thought I’d be a mousse girl – but here I am!

So those are my 3 new favorite products, but of course I can’t leave you without mentioning a few of my tried & true favorites that are also a part of the sale. Like the La Mer Moisturizing cream – this stuff is $$$$, but oh so good, and I always try to wait and purchase for when it goes on these super sales! Y’all should know by now how much I love my Nest Holiday Candles but if you don’t just trust me – they are the best thing you can do to your house {and for your guests!} this holiday season. The mini votives also make the best gifts. Because the boxes are so pretty and festive I like to put them in little clear bags with red + green confetti and tie them with a bow for friends/neighbors/teachers/etc. These are a crowd pleaser – just trust me! Could I mention the Sephora sale without mentioning the Dyson Hairdryer? I think not. This sale is when I bit the bullet and finally bought mine over a year ago, and when I encourage all people who want one to get one when its 20% off! Now’s the time – don’t sleep on this! Last but not least, the GloPro Microneedling Tool has hit Sephora! I knew it was only a matter of time before the big brand retailer picked up my fav face tool. Buy it now while it’s on major sale – you won’t regret it!

Ok friends That’s it – happy shopping! And let me know in the comments what you walk away with! Can’t wait to hear xx

Dudley Stephens | The Best Fleece

Top: Dudley Stephens Boatneck // Jeans: AG {old, similar here} Shoes: Golden Goose Superstar Sneakers // Bag: Pop & Suki Box Bag // Sunglasses: Celine

A few years ago I was in Walgreens when I noticed a pair of leggings in the tights aisle. They were fleece lined. And $8. I bought two pairs. I was always cold in the office, and I swear, I wore those leggings everyday to work for a month straight. So much so that my coworkers started to poke fun at me. Little did they know, their holiday presents in December was a pair for each of them. 😉 To this day I still think about those leggings. They were so simple, yet so incredibly warm. And it was a classic basic that I could easily incorporate into my wardrobe. Is there anything better than fleece to keep you warm?

The answer is no! And that’s what brings me to Dudley Stephens. Using the best quality fleece there is out there, Dudley Stephens has reimagined what it is to be chic in a wearable, everyday way. The newly released boatneck is my favorite style, but I also love the Highland hi-lo and the blanket scarf, which would be amazing for traveling – planes are always so freezing! How pretty is it in the natural blush colorway? Dudley Stephens also make little fleece tops for babies + kids which is probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. We head to Switzerland for Christmas this year so I may just have to get my niece a top or two to keep warm – or better yet, match 😉

Have you ever worn fleece other than in a jacket? Let me know! And if not – prepare to have your game changed. You will never look back!
